I had my first wedding since January this past weekend, and it just so happened to be a beautiful and intimate summer backyard wedding at the couple’s own home! The coronavirus is forcing a lot of 2020 couples to change and alter their wedding plans, and that’s just what Dave and Kayla did. They were actually suppose to get married at Almquist Farm in Hastings, Minnesota, but Covid had other plans for them. They made the best of the situation and I am so happy that they did! Kayla and Dave chose to celebrate with close friends and family this year, then next year they are having a reception party with more guests at their original venue.
You might be on the same boat. If you’re another couple planning a wedding and aren’t sure what to do, hosting a backyard wedding at yours or a family member’s home with just your close friends and family is always a great idea. The day is a lot more intimate, you’re way less stressed, plus, you can change out of your wedding attire and put on something more comfortable and relaxing from the comfort of your own house! Win win!
Kayla and Dave had this GORGEOUS handmade arch that was the site of their ceremony. These crystals are important to Kayla’s family, so I thought it was so neat that they incorporated them in the arch. Unfortunately due to Covid, Kayla’s grandparents weren’t able to attend, but they attended virtually through Zoom! These crystals are from Kayla’s Grandparent’s church where her Grandfather is a minister and Grandmother helped coordinate weddings, so they were able to have a piece of them with them that day.
During the ceremony, Kayla and Dave’s friends and family surprised them with this plaque to hang on the tree that was used as the site for the ceremony. Because they had a backyard wedding, this tree will always hold a special place in their hearts. The location where they first became “The Pociasks”!
Kayla and Dave – thank you so much for inviting me out to photograph your intimate backyard wedding! I am so happy I get to photograph not one, but TWO wedding days of yours! See you next year 🙂
